How a weakness I regarded as minor almost ruined me...
PROCRASTINATION
"Procrastination is a thief of time", so I heard but do you know what else it does asides from stealing your precious time?
It also replaces it with excuses that make you feel justified for not making progress in whatever you do. If you have been in these shoes before then I'm sure you will be able to relate to this. You know that moment when you have loads of work to do but there's just this lazy aura around you that makes you want to push the work till a later date, that exactly is what I'm talking about!
I had a really tough time bringing myself out of that shackle of procrastination last year and it almost ruined me. If there were to be an award for the "best procrastinator of the year", I probably should have had that title inscribed on my forehead (lol). On a normal day, whenever I had a pile of activities on my schedule, I ensure to address them as soon as I can to avoid stories that touch. But the moment I began to give in to snippets of procrastination, I started to have issues like disorganized workflow/schedule, forgetting some really important things to do, missing out on opportunities, and worst still, getting stressed from the pile of work and activities I could have sorted out earlier.
It was one hell of a headache I had to battle and it almost got me drained. If you're reading this post and yet to fully understand the hazards associated with procrastination then I think you should pay more attention to these points. Procrastination, as trivial and harmless as it sounds can:
- Prevent you from reaching your goals
- Ruin a career
- Lower self-esteem
- Lead to making poor decisions
- Damage reputation
- Lead to risk in health
But the good thing is, it can be avoided. I learned that and got delivered from the shackles of this time-stealing thing! Followed some effective steps and trust me, they worked!
I learned to:
- Get more organized
- Eliminate distractions
- Set realistic goals
- Prioritize
- Set achievable deadlines
- Take a break
- Reward me and
- Hold myself accountable
With these, I got back my bearing before I entered the bush (lol). I hope this helps you too if you find yourself in that space but in all, stay true to yourself and you'll be just fine.
